Teen slang

Teen slang is basically the first sign of gaining a little independence. Teenagers get a sense of individualism from speaking in words that are alien to their parents and elders alike. Language changes as youth culture changes, and therefore the teen slang changes with it. Trying to keep up is the hard part, for teens and parents! The media is one of the greatest influences of teen slang over the past couple of decades. Influencing the teen slang is a vocabulary once used only by prisoners and gang-members, but these terms seem more acceptable nowadays with perfectly respectable teenagers. Some words may have different meaning for teenagers in one area compared to another as teen slang differs the world over, but in common is the fact that it is their own language.
